Questions and answers
What requirements do I need to fulfil to work as a nanny?
To work as a nanny at Hey Kiddo, you need to have experience of looking after children, either through previous babysitting jobs, working in a nursery or similar. Some families also ask for nannies with a driving licence or knowledge of a specific language.
What do you do as a nanny?
No, you don't. But you must have experience of looking after children on your own. We will provide you with training before you are placed with a family.
What does a nanny earn?
At Hey Kiddo, a nanny earns between £110 - £175 per hour
Do I need training to work as a nanny?
No, we don't have any training requirements, and we offer in-house training in child safety and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to ensure you are ready for the assignment. If you have training in education, childcare or first aid, this can be a great advantage and increase your chances of getting more assignments. However, experience, reliability and a genuine interest in children are key.
Can pensioners work as nannies?
Yes, many families are looking for a confident and experienced nanny, and as a pensioner, you could be the perfect candidate! Many older nannies have a natural confidence and life experience that is appreciated by both children and parents. Working hours are often flexible, and you can choose to work a few hours a week or more regularly. Some families are specifically looking for a nanny with an educational background or experience of raising their own children.
Are babysitters insured?
Yes, they are. All our babysitters are insured in case something happens.
What is a typical working day like as a nanny?
A nanny's working day varies depending on the age of the children and the needs of the family. The day often starts with picking up the child from pre-school or school, then organising snacks and an activity - perhaps playing in the park, doing arts and crafts or doing homework. For younger children, the day may include nappy changes, sleepovers and basic cooking. Some families also need help in the evenings and at weekends, which may include bedtime and story time. Whatever the arrangement, safety, play and presence are always the focus when you work as a nanny!
