- For me, it's about creating a safe and fun environment where children feel comfortable. When I meet a new family, I always start by getting to know the child on their terms - what they like, what makes them feel safe and how we can have fun together.
- I go slowly and adapt to the child's personality. Some children want to show their toys and talk straight away, while others need more time. I let them set the pace and always make sure that the parents are present at the first meeting, so that the child feels comfortable. Small details, like asking what their favourite cuddly toy is called or what they play with, make a big difference.
- Safety is always a priority, but that doesn't mean we have to sit still and be serious! I like to find fun activities where the children can move around and use their imagination, but within a framework where they feel safe. We can play a treasure hunt in the living room, do arts and crafts or bake something simple. The important thing is that the child feels that I am there and that we have fun together.
- I certainly understand that it can feel like a lot! But at Hey Kiddo, our babysitters are carefully selected, background checked and trained in child safety and CPR. Our nannies all have unique backgrounds. What they have in common is that they have all undergone CPR training (specialising in children and babies). They have also received comprehensive safety training in-house. In addition, they have of course undergone proper security and background checks.
That said, we employ everyone from trained childminders, to law students and full-time nannies.
