First meeting with the family

This checklist is designed to support you as a nanny. Go through it point by point with the parents. Fill in the email address and send when you're done, so you have the notes saved in your email basket (believe us, you'll need it 🙂 )

Your own email address (so you get a copy of the form)

Who is the contact person for bookings and in case something happens?

Contact person 2 (if contact person 1 does not answer)

Exchange numbers with both of them

Allergies and any medication?

The child's personality and interests?

Child's mood (e.g. tired after preschool / defiant)

Family rules and routines

What about sweets/snacks/dinner etc.?

What applies to video games/IPads - Screen time

Procedures for laying

Tour of the house/area so you know where everything is. Routines for opening/locking etc.

Vacuum cleaner and other cleaning items (you are expected to leave the property in good condition)

Plasters and dressings

Outerwear, changes of clothes and shoes

Are there any playgrounds/places nearby that the children like?

Toilet routines

Go through the nappy change with the parents (ask them to demonstrate if you are unsure!)

Always change into a clean, fresh nappy before parents come home

Preschool - Go through directions and practical info such as code and where to find extra clothes

Ask the parent to inform the preschool if you are picking up

Reconcile address and department

Is there a specific contact at the pre-school?

Notify the office so that we can send a key receipt to the customer

How do you book appointments?

What days/times will you meet?

How do you communicate about bookings?

Are there any other special dates that the family already knows they need help? (In addition to your regular meetings, check if you are available then!)

Anything else the parents would like to mention?

IMPORTANT! Confirm time for next session - or book a play date!

Even if the family has no immediate need for childcare, the appointment should still be booked. It is important for the child to have time with you as a nanny early on. So that the child feels safe and happy when you pick them up from preschool for the first time, for example. Maybe book a play date just a few days after the introduction meeting?
