Why I chose to work as a nanny

Working as a nanny

A year ago, I started working as a nanny for Hey Kiddo - but how did I decide that this was what I wanted to do? I've always enjoyed teaching others, which is why I took the job as a Studybuddy a few years ago. Through this job, I realised that I genuinely enjoy helping younger people with different things, and really seeing my students understand context and learn how to do things for themselves. I have been babysitting younger siblings, cousins, and family friends for many years - and after I started work as a studybuddy I found myself realising that it was really caring for and helping younger people that I enjoyed.

As a nanny, I have had to be responsible, creative, think actively, be co-operative and accommodating. You need to be able to put yourself in the pupil or child's shoes - as a nanny this can be, for example, in getting the child to want to help with cooking, to want to go out and move around, or to figure out why the child is upset. As a nanny you need these qualities to deal with some situations, but there is so much more to the job than this. For me, being a nanny has meant fun playtime, drawing, crafts, playing football, baking, reading and much more. The job of a nanny involves active childcare. You take care of, help, include, teach, have fun and socialise with the children.

For me, a person who was looking for an extra job for the afternoons/evenings a few days a week, this was absolutely perfect. It is also nice to know that there are both full-time jobs and more part-time jobs outcomes that I would like to work more. A fun job where you take care of and playing with happy and creative children, what could be better? Do like me, work as a nanny 🙂
