It's time for freeeeedagmys!
The work week, school week and pre-school week are over. The whole family is looking forward to a quiet evening to relax and unwind after the stress of everyday life. Maybe you'll curl up on the sofa, have dinner together or play a game together. Maybe your babysitter is visiting so that the parents can get some extra rest with a dinner out on the town. The children can stay awake a little longer and, to keep their spirits up, some Friday cuddles are served, healthy Friday cuddles. But it doesn't have to mean candy, crisps and soft drinks. Here are some smart tips to avoid getting stuck in the unhealthy-Friday-cuddles swamp.
- Eat a proper dinner! Avoid fast food that triggers cravings. Enjoy sitting a little longer at the dinner table and make sure your family is full and happy.
- Skip the fizzy drinks. Instead, make fun drinks with juice, frozen berries and maybe some lemon slices.
- Alternate the crisps! Friday doesn't have to mean greasy chips. Pop potato chips or try lentil chips, which are a little more filling and in smaller packs.
- Vegetable sticks, both delicious and fun!
- Don't focus on the snacks! Sure, it's nice to eat snacks and relax, but enjoy what you're doing together and don't make a big deal out of "Tonight it's chips and sweets"
- Use small bowls. It is cosy to hand out your "own" bowl of goodies and you, as an adult, have the opportunity to regulate the amount and avoid competition for the bowls

Healthy and child-friendly snack options - "the perfect healthy Friday snack"
Snacks are something we all need sometimes. It might make movie time a little more cosy, or it might be needed to boost energy levels on a tired afternoon or during an active day at the playground. Too often, however, snacks are just a quick energy boost that gives children a short burst of energy that leads to even more tiredness when it passes. Too much sugar is not good for mood, health or teeth. Making healthier snacks may sound complicated and time-consuming, but it can actually be really simple, with some inspiration below:
- Freeze grapes! Delicious, fresh and cosy.
- Corn cakes, easy and appreciated by young and old. Suitable when time is limited.
- Classic pot popcorn. Skip the processed micropop, cover a pan bottom with oil, pour on popcorn, put on a lid, lower the heat and shake well until the popping subsides.
- Make mini sandwiches. Divide ready-made sandwiches into mini sandwiches to make it more fun for the kids. Perfect for energising the playground!
- Vegetable sticks, tasty and can be dipped in e.g. filling hummus
It's always a good idea to have a snack in your changing bag or backpack when you go out. See our recipes for more advanced snacks and fika suggestions 😀
