Play tips: Draw and colour with drawing games for kids

drawing games for children

What are drawing games for children?

A fun way to start getting to know each other - or just a fun activity with friends and nanny are drawing games for children. You can tell by the name what it is, as it is a creative game that can be done in pairs or in a larger group. If it's the first time you meet, drawing games are a good icebreaker as they often lead to fun and laughter. All you need is some paper and pencils or crayons. Of course, you don't have to be an artist to do this activity, anyone can draw and you just need to have fun!

How do you draw a face?

Most drawing games involve drawing a portrait of someone. It's not always easy to know how to draw a face, so here are some simple steps to follow. Always start by drawing an oval, making sure it covers the whole paper so that you can fit the face inside. Then you can draw a few support lines as shown in the picture below. It is important not to press too hard with the pencil when drawing the support lines, so that you can erase them later. On the top horizontal line, draw the eyes and on the bottom line the mouth. Between the eyes and mouth, on the vertical line, draw the nose. Then just add eyebrows, ears and hair - and you're done!

4 tips on drawing games for children:

1. "Don't look down at the paper"

One tip for a simple drawing game for children is "don't look down at the paper". Here you usually have to be two-by-two, and sit opposite each other. The task is to try to draw a portrait of the person sitting in front of you - without looking down at the paper! This game often results in some pretty funny drawings, and you can't help but laugh.

2. "Do not lift the pen from the paper"

This game is also fun. It involves trying to draw a picture of the person sitting in front of you, without taking your pen off the paper. Of course, you'll have to look down at the paper, but you'll soon realise that you've made a pretty funny portrait of the person in front of you. When you're done, show the pictures to each other and see who bursts out laughing first.

3. "Portrait of lack of time"

This game involves sitting two-by-two in front of each other, to draw each other, while another person takes the time. The person with the timer decides how much time you have. At each round, he or she calls out, for example, 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 30 seconds or 10 seconds, and then says stop when the time is up. The less time you have, the stranger the portrait you get!

4. "Draw an old man together"

This game can be done in a group. You sit down at a table and the first person takes a piece of paper and starts drawing an old man, for example his head. Then you pass the paper round so that everyone else can finish drawing the old man. You pass the paper round until you feel finished or when there is no more room to draw.
