Relax with yoga
For those who find it difficult to unwind and relax yoga one of the best activities - even for children. On the mat indoors or out on the grass, yoga requires no equipment and can be done anytime, anywhere! As a form of exercise, yoga is made up of several positions put together in sequences. One person who has worked with yoga for several years is yoga instructor Sofie Carlsson. For her, yoga became a way to unwind and ground herself in her own body.
- I took my first yoga class in the late 90s. I have always been a searching soul, fascinated by the invisible, mysterious and deep, and yoga allowed me to explore these parts of life," she says.
Yoga has its roots in India and is believed to have developed around 3,000-5,000 years ago. The word itself comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, and means to bind together, in this case the body and what is within ourselves.
- "The best thing about yoga is probably how the practice helps me to become more true, whole and real. And the fact that it can be practised anywhere, in principle, and doesn't have to cost money is also great, Sofie explains.
For those who have not tried yoga before, Sofie has lots of tips. Among other things, she says that you have to dare to test yourself.
- Choose a form of yoga that feels fun and appeals to you. Be patient with yourself as anything new you start doing requires practice and repetition. Remember that yoga is not about performance but rather a tool to learn to listen to your body without harsh words or judgement.
Lastly, she points out that you should choose to go with someone you feel comfortable with, and who makes you feel safe. Therefore, yoga is a fun and imaginative way for you as a nanny/babysitter to exercise with the children, where you can activate both the physical and mental.
Tips:
- Start by doing simple movement patterns like sun salutation.
- Don't push yourself too hard, it's not about results but rather about being present in the moment
- Try different positions and in different places until you feel comfortable.
- Have fun! Don't take yourself too seriously, dare to laugh and test yourselves!
