Fun games for everyone
A good laugh prolongs life. This has been shown by a study from Lund University in 2018. It shows that body and mind are closely linked and that a good laugh can help you stay healthier. How do we make sure we laugh more? Former camp counsellor Channa Beggren knows a thing or two about that. Channa, who used to be a camp leader for the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's day camp, has learnt lots of fun games to play with the children that are guaranteed to get a good laugh.
- "The best thing about games is how creative you can be, the games feel new every time," she says.
She says the most fun part of being a leader is seeing all the personalities of all the children and how they interact with each other. For her, as a camp leader, it was fun to have a supportive role with activities in focus and to just be in the context for so many days and really get to know everyone. For Channa, the creative moments were particularly good because you could combine team games and physical activities with sometimes sitting down and for example drawing the place or drawing an experience.
- "The funniest memory I have was probably the ghost walk, both going on it myself at the camp and especially planning it later as a camp leader," she says.
Some of her favourite games to play with the children include Floor is Lava, Living Charades and what she calls Special Hide and Seek. (Perfect games to play as a nanny and babysitter).
- Mischievous games are fun as long as they are harmless and don't hurt anyone of course!
Suggestions for fun games:
The floor is lava
Together with the babysitter you can set up an obstacle course that you have to get through, the only catch is that you absolutely must not touch the floor! Because the floor is made of burning hot lava. The first person to make it to the end without touching the floor moves on to the next level, also the next obstacle course.
Living charades:
It's a game many people have played before, and as Channa says, always leads to a good laugh. Each participant writes down five notes, each with crazy activities on them. The notes are then drawn separately and played in front of the other participants. Whoever guesses correctly on the most notes can be declared the winner!
Specialised short-term accommodation:
All participants hide except one who searches. When you are found, you become part of the searching team and help the detective find the hidden players. In this version of the classic game, no one is safe and the excitement keeps you on your toes.
